Opportunities won’t come by every day, so making the most out of them is crucial. That’s what Low Kai Hen – a 2020 Han Chiang High School graduate did. He seized the golden opportunity, going abroad to pursue further education, leaving behind the comfortable life he had in his home.
About Kai Hen
Ka Hen graduated from Han Chiang High School in 2020, scoring a groundbreaking result of 7As in the unified examination. Therefore, he’s currently studying at the prestigious university of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He was given a scholarship from the Beijing Government for the first year, and scholarships from Tsinghua University for the other years.
When Kai Hen heard about the news of his entry into Tsinghua University, he was elated since it was his dream university. Moreover, Tsinghua University is one of the top universities in China, so he felt excited to develop his education there. However, he was nervous about facing an unknown life with a completely different lifestyle, especially in a foreign country. Therefore, feeling overwhelmed at first was inevitable. Occasionally, Kai Hen would get homesick, but he cooks and goes to Malaysian-style restaurants with his friends to reminisce about his home.
As for Kai Hen’s course, he decided to take up economics and finance since China is the world’s second-largest economy, and he believes that pursuing economics and finance could take advantage of that. Additionally, China is Malaysia’s largest trading partner, so he believes the course can show the best aspects of the relationship between the two countries. For his future, he would like to work at a company in China, in hopes of the company branching out in Malaysia, where he could be sent back there for work and development.
Life In China
Starting, China was very stressful for Kai Hen, as it was a new environment, and he needed to figure out what to do or where to go. Besides that, the cultural difference between China and Malaysia is drastic, so it was difficult for him to adapt. To cope with the stress, he usually plays various sports and travels to other cities to relax.
On one hand, high school education is more organised and strict, where students just stay in their designated classes, while teachers come in to teach, which makes it dead and unflexible. On the other hand, university classes are arranged freely and autonomously, as not only can the classes be chosen, but the timetable can also be decided by the students.
Secrets To Success
In his eyes, there are no secrets to success, as all it takes is hard work and determination. He managed to learn efficiently by actively listening to class, taking down notes, studying in advance, as well as seeking help from teachers. All this guarantees him to pass examinations with flying colours.
Kai Hen is extremely grateful for his loving parents, as they’ve never failed in caring and providing for him all these years, which brought him to where he is today. Other than that, he would like to thank Han Chiang High School for its quality education, and for giving him a recommendation letter to study at Tsinghua University.
Kai Hen advises Han Chiang High School students to constantly work hard to strive for greatness, pursuing their goals. They should show the best side of themselves, and use it to their advantage.
Kai Hen serves as a role model for all students to learn from. Students should be inspired by his determination and success, striving to be the best version of themselves.
