“Music is an outburst of the soul.” ― Frederick Delius.
On the 27th of January 2024, Han Chiang High School’s Live Band held a Chinese New Year concert – “The Sound of Spring”, in the school’s Lim Lean Teng Hall, lasting from 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm. The concert even featured the Northern Jazz Unit and special guests, further enhancing the performances. The participants’ musical interests could have been piqued or founded through the concert, inspiring them to pursue the art of music. Besides that, the concert was a great form of entertainment, especially for the ticket prices, which included first class (RM30), and business class (RM20). The purpose of these funds was to purchase musical instruments for Live Band, further improving the quality of their future performances.
The opening ceremony began at 7.15 pm when the Han Chiang High School headmistress – Madam. Kung Bee Lee gave a speech, followed by a spectacular drum performance by the Han Chiang High School’s 24 Festive Drums Society, as appreciation to all the guests for participating. In her speech, she first welcomed all guests, wishing them a Happy New Year, then thanked all the performers who had put in their effort for the concert. She expressed her delight by honouring professional musicians and dancers who made the event more exceptional. Madam Kung Bee Lee further extended her thanks to the guests for their generous donations, which helped raise funds for the Live Band, and their support that strongly motivated the school to strive towards the mission of better development.
Around 7:30 pm, a brief introduction video about the Live Band Society was displayed, to deepen the guests’ knowledge about the society. Songs like “Wrecking Ball”, “Blank Space”, and “Shape of You” were first performed by Live Band members, who started the concert with a bang. Furthermore, the Beyond Band began their outstanding performance at 8:00 pm and ended at 8:20 pm. After a short intermission, a performance by the Northern Jazz Band was displayed followed by a traditional dance performance. Before the end of the concert, the Chinese New Year Band performed a special Chinese New Year Mashup Song that they specially prepared for the audience.
At last, the concert officially concluded at 9.30 pm with all performers expressing their gratitude with a goodbye message to the audience. The concert was a success, raising RM25,900 worth of funds for Live Band and serving as an unforgettable experience for all its guests, allowing them to take their minds off life’s stress and relax through the beauty of music.
